1996 Honda Passport

Hi All, When I shift from 2wd to 4wd (high range or low) the vehicle has a low thumping vibration that seems to come from the right front. The pasport will not go into 4wd. You can shift from 2H to 4H and 4L, but the front end doesn't lock. The 4wd indicator is always on. What do I need to check for? Is there a solenoid that is not working? Thanks!
