Hi I have a 1994 Aspire 2 door hatchback. Whenever I put gas in it,
there is a VERY strong gas smell inside the car that lasts for a while--
until I drive it a few miles with the windows open. The problem seems to
be getting worse. At first it was only real bad when I filled the tank,
so I started just putting about 5 gal a a time, never filling it much
more than 1/2 full. Lately it happpens any time I put any in it.I
flipped the back seat up and removed the plate on the side that covers
the filler pipe, and can't see anything obviously wrong. I poured some
gas in from a can and the filler pipe doesn't seem to be leaking. Any
Aspire gurus know if this is an inherat problem, or have any
suggestions? Thanks Larry

Did you take the back seat bottom out, remove the access plate and look
at the top of the fuel tank where the fuel pump mounts?
