1992 Toyota Celica
180,000 miles
Is it normal to have to replace the MANUAL transmission at this mileage?
What all is involved in a manual transmission replacement?
thanks for any help and comments!!......really.

Generally not the whole transmission, no. Synchros and other wear items by
need replacement, but the case and shafts should be alright if the unit
was maintained and not abused. What is the concern with yours?

It is my daughters car.
It has been hard to get it to go into gear...in fact she said one night it
simply wouldn't go in gear but later it would.
Also sometimes it, she says, will slip while driving down the road in 5th
gear or whatever gear she is in at the time.
But she said the RPMs didn't race when it slipped.....
so I will post more later...

Sounds like the clutch is going. If not, then probably the synchros.
Chances are she's been really hard on the clutch... young women tend to
treat clutches really really bad.
