I think you will find this is normal behaviour for these cars.

The engine doesn't have enough torque to overcome the drag which occurs
when you put it into gear. This can be easily worked around by running
the engine at 2,500 RPM in Park before engaging Drive. You will probably
need to have your foot on the brake when doing this (or use the hand-
brake).
After you have engaged drive sucessfully, you will still need to maintain
the engine RPM with the accelerator pedal, so keep the foot on the brake
until you are ready to move off.
