Post subject: 1986 magna

Today when i started u the car to drive to work, it sounded like it was
running on 3 cylinders. The day before the car was fine. Can any tell me
what could be causing this minor problem. It's a pure work car and is only
driven to and from work, a paltry 20 kms per day, but it has been well
looked after. It has new spark plugs, leads and coil wire, air filter, oil
filter and fuel filter are also new. The rocker cover gasket was changed 500
kms ago. So, what woul dout of th eblue, make the car sound like a 3
cylinder

Thanx

Peter

If the 86 is injected, possibly a blocked injector.

All other cases:
a) failed plug lead
b) cracked distributor cap
c) fouled plug. This occurs due to burned oil, common on old engines
d) broken ring, see c)
e) worn out valve stem seals, see c)
f) failed head gasket.
g) burned or leaking valve.

First thing, identify which plug is not firing, and have a look at it. If
its carboned up, you have oil burning. Check the leads and inside the
distributor cap. Clean of dust and dirt with WD40.

A failed head gasket may leave the plug wet. f) and g) will require the head
removed and reconned.
