1984 Mercedes 500 SEL Ok. I have checked these forums and 99% of the time it seems to be the rheostat. I removed it and made a jumper wire, so that is completely out of the picture. All the bulbs are good, and I replaced every single fuse under the hood with new ones, and i still have no dash ligh..
« I had similar situation and it turned out that the number plate bulbs were faulty/shorting. They were replaced and it work fine Jim »
« I found the problem. This is unbeliveable. On the circuit board with the rheostat on it, the wire that is embedded in the circuit board was burnt and had split (like a blown fuse). I made another ju.. »

I was wondering, how hard would it be to buy exhuast parts online and then put them all together and on the car? My exhaust on my car is toast. Literally everything has holes in it, except the manifolds I think. I got a quote from the muffler guys around here, it was like $1200 for everything but..

1984 Mercedes 500 sel. I have an extremely high idle, at 2100 RPM. I went to a local Mercedes mechanic, and he let me take a used idle computer and put it in my car to see if it was the problem. That didn't do anything to fix it. I have cleaned the idle control valve, still no fix. When the connec..

1984 Mercedes 500 SEL Euro. The wheel hub on one of the rear wheels has stripped lug bolt threads. I want to replace this part now, but I dont know how to remove it. I know that there is a bolt in the center, and I have removed it and tried as hard as possible to pull it out, but no luck. Is there..
« Yep... there is also a large nut on the back that required a special socket to remove along with removal of the half shaft. »
« Any idea where I could get more info on this and that special socket? »
« The wheel hub is very difficult to replace (as explained by Karl). Try to replace it WITH the carrier instead. That is, the hub, bearing, and the housing all together. Find a good used one from.. »
« You will need to replace the rear wheel bearings.... Not a do-it-in-your-driveway repair. The 13mm bolt you removed from the center only holds the axle shaft in. The special tools and a press are ne.. »

Mercedes 500 SEL 1984 200k miles. Ok, the car will start up really good most of the time, and I notice no problems driving it.
