http://Toyota.autoboardz.com/Car-turn-1984-500-SEL-ftopict205645.html (Car will not turn over 1984 500 SEL)
Ok heres the story. Car is a 1984 500 SEL with 199,000 miles. Bought the car, started and ran perfectly for 2 days. It has been blistering cold over here in michigan latley (0 degrees and negative 10 windchills). The night before, I removed the instrument cluster to replace the bulbs, and had the ..
« Don't introduce new variables, the more things are disturbed the more difficult it gets to sort down to "the problem". How does the engine oil look? Any coolant in the oil? If the coolant was OK (f.. »
« Fill up the coolant. As for your starter, I would say your starter is dead. »

http://Toyota.autoboardz.com/1984-500-SEL-Oxygen-Sensor-Location-ftopict207142.html (1984 500 SEL Oxygen Sensor Location)
I just had the car on ramps trying to find the o2 sensor, but I had no luck. can someone tell me where it would be at?
« Rick, follow your headers along (I don't know your particular model) you probably have two and where they join, to a single exhaust pipe you will see the little bugger sticking up... often there is.. »
« If it is like mine, it is on the right side exhaust pipe just as it comes out of the exhaust manifold. It is on the top of the pipe and hard to see. »
« I couldn't find it probably 'cause a '84 560 SEL doesn't have any O2 sensors at all. »
« If you have original cat. you will have two of them... big one is obvious... and then there is another smaller one by the starter... closer to engine. You should see a wire there going into the mi.. »

http://Toyota.autoboardz.com/Fuel-pump-noise-ftopict212918.html (Fuel pump noise)
1984 500 SEL Euro The fuel pump makes a somewhat loud hissing noise, like there is a leak, but there is no leak to be found at all, I have checked the fuel lines and all. It almost sounds like its being strained, is this a sign of a soon to be failure? Or is it normal. The car runs good and doesn'..
« It is probably both the fuel pump and fuel pump relay. The age of the car is now 23... I think that is super long life for fuel pump. »
« When did you change the fuel filter? If its clogged the pump has to work to hard and the greater current sought is destroying the fuel pump relay. The filter should be replaced regularly every 50k.. »
« Where is the fuel filter? You might look at it. »
« Remove the fuel filter. Take a clear bottle and allow the fuel to drain into the bottle from the inlet side. You may want to take some air pressure, and blow all the fuel out of the filter. Now hold.. »

1984 500 SEL. There is a oil leak somewhere under the car, looks like right where the transmission connects to the engine. Its all covered in oil. I dont know what it could be. I also have a bad motor mount as well. How much trouble would it be to pull the engine to correct the leaks. I would like..
« If you are positive it is engine oil, then it probably is the rear main seal. Did you check your valve cover seals back there too? People drop their tranny to repair this problem... not the other w.. »
« If it were me, I would pull the engine and trans together, then seperate them, but I have all the equipment to do it. It is probably one of the easist cars to do that I have ever done. I would h.. »
« A large sheet tray at AutoZone along with some oil absorbent placed under the car is my solution for my 84 300D until I can get mine fixed. I don't have to pull the engine though. Just the turbo oil.. »

http://Toyota.autoboardz.com/fuel-pump-wire-ftopict217737.html (fuel pump wire)
1984 500 SEL euro .Car quit the other day (ran out of gas, and my fuel gauge doesnt work). I didnt think it was gas though, because I just changed the fuel filter, so I figured maybe something came loose. Nothing was, but a wire going towards the fuel pump (positive i think) was hot. I mean so hot..
« Sounds like fuel pump is toast. Draw too much current and thus makes the wire hot... this also means the fuel pump relay is toast also... as the relay is stuck on... which is why you felt the hot .. »
« The fuel pump works fine though. The car ended up being out of gas and runs fine. »
« Perhaps a clogged fuel filter. It swallowed the dirt from the empty tank bottom. That's one of the reasons not to let run dry an old car. -- Roland Franzius »
« If only one wire was hot, remove it and clean it and the post it came off of. Heat at one spot usually means a poor connection. Paul »
