On the vehicles I've had (Chrysler) vac advance is for
accelerating.
I'd suggest to clean your battery clamps, and also trace the big
wires back and clean where the cbles go to the ground, and to the
starter. On the battery end, push the metal part out of the
plastic shroud, and clean em good with a wire brush.
