Archived from groups: rec>autos>makers>vw>watercooled (more info?)

I bought this car with an alternator with a broken housing. I changed
the alternator yet it still only charges at 12volts. I double grounded
the alternator because somebody told me that could fix it. However it
did not. Does it have a seperate voltage regulator? Anybody ever have
this problem?

There's a unit by the battery that looks like a voltage regulator but
i cant tell. Please help.
