long time reader, first time poster! I'm very slowly working on a 1963
lark, full pkg R-1, 4spd, super red(origanally) it is now almost ready
for next summers driving again, reassembling the heater system after
heater box rust repaired, new core, hoses, water pump,ect.....rubber
engine mount completely broken down, engine mount bracket broken in
two, now in great shape...my goals at this time is reliable mechanical
condition to drive any where i want, and paint somtime before I die,
now to my question, first the ground strap was gone, i have replaced
it, but I was curious, can't remember, what problems does that create
by not having the strap?
My lark is 63v-28484,. 2dr. sedan, R-1 full pkg,4 speed, currently
painted...........I hate to say it.............I think what was mopar
plum crazy....... the guy I bought it from was from here in central
Ill., he bought it in florida in about 1992, JTN has said ,it was
seen there in florida, does any one have any info about it. origanaly
it was delivered to GA. any help would be great. after this is
driving I hope to get 63v-15338, 2dr. sedan,R-2,4 spd,disc, running

Get the original production order from the Stude Nat Muse. & that will
give you a lot of the info you need.

Sounds like you will be able to enjoy that jewel as you are doing it
correct as you go. Incidentally I was employed by Stude @ the "factoey
store" Studebaker Atlanta before being in the zone office. (we sold a
lot of R 1 & 2 cars)

Hey Bruce,

Sounds like a couple great projects, indeed!

I am assuming you are talking about the ground strap from the engine
to the frame. If it is not there, no real foul is created. All it
does is provide a positive ground point between the two. With it
gone, you have to rely on the other paths from the engine to the
chassis/body for a ground. If everything was working before, there
were enough other ways to complete the circuits. It is obviously
better with that strap in place.

We have 2 R-series non-package cars here at the farm. The first is
63V15359, an R2 4-speed Wagonaire that we just got at a farm auction
that is very solid and pretty complete. It will get a full
restoration as time and monies allow and should be one heck of a fun
car. The second is 64V17327, an R1 HD Flight-o-matic Y3 Marshal. It
also is a very fun car and will hopefully be with us for some time to
come.
