My 1954 Commander has a black body and red wheels. Should they be
white? Also, is the Loewy coupe subject to the hood letting go at speed
like the Hawks? Thanks

White wheels were 1962 on. Prior to that they were usually body color (or
silver in '61). There were some strange exceptions though. My solid color
Chippewa Green '53 Commander Starliner is supposed to have Tahoe Green
wheels. According to my '54 paint chart, wheels on a Velvet Black solid
color car are Shoshone Red..
If you would like a scan of this chart, email me off group.
I don't remember ever hearing of a '53-'54 hood blowing open (and I have
accidentally driven miles at speed with the main latch not fastened).

The two '53 coupes I've owned, had, before I obtained them, had the hood blow open. One had a scoop on the hood and it impacted the upper edge of the windshield, crumpling the drip edge, the other dimpled the roof.
