Hi all,
I run a 2003 2.5 V6 166, I went to use the car today, tried to open the
doors today via the key fob and although the alarm beeped and lights flashed
as normal there was no clunk of the central locking (unlocking or locking).
I now have to lock all the doors manually via the key.
I tried the central locking button in the centre console as well but still
no central locking action at all!
I took the battery connection off and reconnected it but again made no
difference.
Any ideas what might be causing this, I guess that is maybe a motor,
solenoid or maybe a fuse?
Any ideas what I can do to try and fix this - where do i start.?
Thanx for now

Given that it's a total failure of central locking, not alarm or
anything else, I'd start with the fusebox myself......

Yes, it was a fuse Thanx!
Nice to have a cheap fix for once!
In the book it said it should be a 25A fuse but there was actually a 10A
fuse fitted so hopefully there wont be a 'proper' reason for the fuse
blowing. If it happens again then I guess a motor or something will need
replacing.
Cheers

Unlikely, it was just the wrong fuse. Enjoy

Why do you suppose Alfa designed a 25A fuse?
There is just one proper reason for a 10A fuse to blow, that is that it
should have been a 25A one..........

Yes I have had this problem with my 156 and despite new batteries it
would still not work. Told by garage that they need both keys and
will reset the keys as they sometimes for no reason stop functioning
on the setting they are on. Hope that helps. Mine is a selespeed 7
years young apart from major gearbx repair (out of waranty, of course)
it is super to drive. >> Stay informed about: Alfa 166 - Central Locking broke |

Well I have had the car from new and its never blown before, so something
must have changed! Maybe a sticky motor. Maybe also the book is wrong and it
should be a 10A fuse not 25A as it states - thats a heavy fuse for central
locking isn't it?
Anyway its not blown again yet, I put another 10A in until I can get
confirmation - dont want to come back to a red hot Alfa!!! >> Stay informed about: Alfa 166 - Central Locking broke |

Took a look in my GT's and my former 156SW owners manuals:
In the GT there is also a 25Amp fuse for the central locking system
In the 156 2 fuses, one 20Amp and one 10Amp where both also secure trunk and
interior lights.
So ............

Thanks, that is worth knowing, maybe 25A is correct. I think I will run it
on the 10A for now until it blows again and then upgrade it. Just seems a
bit high especially as the car has functioned correctly for 4 years on a
10A! >> Stay informed about: Alfa 166 - Central Locking broke |
