James May was driving the Alfa 159 on Top Gear last night. Sadly, I just
can't warm to it - there are some nice ideas round the front end, but overall
it's too...Germanic?

In the current pricing I'd probably buy a Maserati 3200 and home that it
didn't break.

There are 2 ways to look at the pricing of a new 159:
1. It's a hell of a lot cheaper than an equivalent BMW / Mercedes or
Audi.
2. It's very expensive for a Mondeo / Vectra / Passat competitor.
It sits somewhere between the two, in my opinion. However, Alfa really
need to do something to bolster the lease rates - even a base model 147
JTD comes out at more per month than my current company hack.

The reason for Alfa's being so expensive as lease cars is that they
depreciate so quickly, so the leaser is having to cover that.

Crikey! My last courtesy car was a diesel punto. I have never heard of a

Was it the 'drives like a 156' bit that gave it away? As much as I like my
156, I don't suppose it really drives like a M. I just realised, his Alfa
service probably was expensive anyway! Any garage that gives out courtesy
cars for a service will charge more - I should know, I use one!! >> Stay informed about: 159 on Top Gear |
