Post subject: 12v cigarette circuit

Is the following device and use in my 156?

ebay item 280201276113 - http://tinyurl.com/32ckou

Its a 12v solar panel for keeping the battery topped up. Connects to the
cigarette lighter, but isn't the circuit to the cigarette lighter switched
off when the engine is off, thereby rendering the device useless?

Yep - You're correct. An interesting device but it will not work on the
Alfa 156 and probably other cars where the power to the cigarette lighter is
removed when the engine is off.

How about gluing it to the 156 bonnet and cutting a huge access hole to get
straight to the battery!! LOL

On the other hand it does have croc clips (as well as a ciggie lighter
connector) so you could connect it straight to the battery but it will be a
bit of a pain to have to keep opening the bonnet every time...

I don't know a car that provides power through the cigarette lighter when
the ignition is off, so don't see that this will work on any car!
