'97 S-10 turn signal flasher is about to bite the bullet. Can someone that
has changed one before tell me how much I have to yank off the dash to find
the unit? In searching other forums I have come to the conclusion that it's
somewhere under the radio and glove box. Just want to know what all has to
come off to find it. One place said 3 or 4 different panels. Don't want to
start on the wrong side, etc... Or, is it accessible if you take the glove
box out?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks
Brad

Brad-above the drivers knees is a section of the dash held in place by
t-25ish(guess) large torx bolts/screws. Pull all these out(approx 5
of them), pull the ashtray out and you'lll find a 7mm bolt to pull
then...pull this section down far enough to snake your hand in there
at the proper angle and whala...both emergency and signal flasher are
there side by side. Activate one or the other-put a finger on one or
the other to figure which one is the one you need to pull. Last one I
did I pulled out the old flasher with a large pair of needle nose
pliers that I have-wasn't worried about indenting the flasher-I was
replacing a dead one. To replace I was able to snake my hand in there
as described above. The flashers are actually 3-5 inches left of the
ash tray. later JP ps DON'T pull the glove box unless you want
practice in pulling a glove box.

My buddy just went thru something funny with his S10 turn signal
flasher. One side worked as it was supposed to, turn the turn
signal lever to the other direction and the turn signal bulbs
would turn on for that side, but stayed on and did not flash.
Turned out the wire going into the socket assy was nearly shot
and not getting the full juice. It was found by wiggling the
wires around after exhausting all other attempts to find the
short or broken wire/connection somewhere. If none of your
signal lights work, then this reply post doesn't pertain to your
situation. Good luck.

Hey, Thanks to both. These are some good instructions/directions. I do
appreciate the time taken to advise.

Right now the turn signals (both sides) go at varying speeds. Very fast,
like you are connected to a trailer and it's pulling lots of juice, then
slow, then it will actually stop. I thought it was a battery problem, but I
checked and I seem to be holding good voltage and when the engine is running
it's right at 14.5. Some of the other forums I checked were vague on
location. (Somewhere by your left foot, behind glove box, pull 3 or 4
panels, etc.)

No I never did fix the radio/wiper issue. it's getting worse now.
Sometimes when the wipers are in the upright position the radio will short
out. Has to be the wiper motor. I'll fix it too in the near future. Just
hate to be one of these "change things 'til the problem goes away" owners...

That radio thing was strange. Something that can pull enough power to cause
the radio to shut down surely should blow a fuse or circuit breaker.
Surprised someone remembered that I had posted that one.

Thanks again.

Brad

Have you tightened all the Ground (black) wires under the dash ?? my '84
S-10 Blazer and my '94 S-15 Jimmy have both needed the lugs tightened
when various strange problems would start up.

Thank-you everyone. I followed the instructions and went right to the
flasher unit. Very clear and informative! Appreciate the help. Ready to
tackle something else now. Like those wipers or that craze gas guage that
doesn't work right..... unless the key is off....
