Been agonizing over what car to buy. Have test driven the 08 Yaris
automatic 4 door and the 09 Corolla automatic 4 door. Wanted an 08
Corolla but they are all gone. Plenty of 08 Yarises left, last time I
looked.
Yaris : 3 K cheaper than the Corolla.
sporty, crisp handling, great seat, peppy,
Not a huge trunk, not a huge back seat.
29 city, 35 hiway.
Can't see hood at all from driver seat !!! Weird.
Kind of strange looking car.
I have a verbal from dealer for $14,300 plus tax and
tags.
Corolla : 3 k more expensive than Yaris.
Weird trans action : shifts up / down in strange ways,
when in cirty driving. Hiway trans is normal.. (The Yaris trans
acted like a "normal" auto trans for me, in both city and hiway. )
Very spongy brakes. Fearing a crash as I kept pushing down
the brake pedal farther and farther, hoping to actually engage the
brakes before passing through the stop sign.
Steering wandering on hiway.
Slight buzz from engine / trans at 60 to 70 mph.
Looks beautiful !! Much prettier than the Yaris.
27 ? city, 35 hiway. Biggeer than the Yaris, but same
hiway mpg !!
Can get one for $16,100 plus tax and tags.
Decisions, decisions. Any happy 08 Yaris drivers out there ?? Any
happy 09 Corolla owners ???
Thanks for any input / insight / empathy. >> Stay informed about: 08 Yaris or 09 Corolla ?? |

work for hertz and have driven both . like both cars . according to
consumer repots they both get the same gas mileage over all and in town
33 overall and 23 in city driving . but the yaris gets 44 on the
highway . the corolla gets 40. you also get lots more airbags as
standard in the corolla. in our corolla le s we have the trip computer
which gives mpg , distance to empty and so fourth. both are good cars
but think i might have to go with the corolla don't think you could go
wrong with either one . I have a 97 corolla and a 06 camry so am hooked
on Toyota. let us know what you get . . >> Stay informed about: 08 Yaris or 09 Corolla ?? |

Either car is a good choice. Bear in mind the Yaris has a 1.5 Liter engine
that gets good fuel economy but you have to flog it to get it going. The
Corolla has, IIRC a 1.8 Liter, not quite as good on gas but a real speed
demon by comparison.
If you care where it's made, the Yaris is made in Japan and the Corollas
were being made in Canada, although they may be made in the US now. >> Stay informed about: 08 Yaris or 09 Corolla ?? |
