Post subject: 07' Impreza brakes
Archived from groups: alt>autos>subaru (more info?)

Bought me a 2.5i 5M wagon yesterday. Drove it an hr before paying.
Brake pedal was soft. Had some travel before they started to grab.
Told them to check them out. One guy they said was a tech, was telling
me that is how the ABS will feel. Didn't make me feel very comfortable
when braking, like they didn't start to grab till the pedal was
depressed about 1/3. Felt like it would increase the stopping
distance, by time I got them to start grabbing.

I'm not a fan of ABS to start with so it didn't endear me to them
like others are. I like things that are confidence inspiring, not
something to make me less confident, and drive slower. I have an
injury that when I am not feeling good, my reaction times are Much
slower, which I don't enjoy. To drive a car that adds to the time or
stopping distance, Isn't Gona Get It. I Hope I don't have to Fix It
myself, but then that won't be anything new. Been told
many times, That's the way they All are. Like a V-8 motor that was
fouling 2 plugs after 3K mi, and every 600 after that. The dealer
wouldn't put hotter plugs in since the car was driven in the city a
lot, and the motor had the same plugs as the 2-4bbl motor. They tuned
it up 3X, saying Big motors don't run smooth, and then Rebuilt the
motor, and the breaking in, light oil doubled the time till the plugs
fouled. Changing to one heat range hotter solved the problem.

Another that developed a growling noise when decelerating from speed
at 40K mi, was Supposed to be how they All sounded. Dealer would't
check the fluid level. I did and it was 1/3 what it should be. Filling
the Man. trans ended the noise. Must not have been enough oil, since
it was quiet for 100K more miles.

I have the same model and know what you mean . The brakes do work well even if the pedal is soft . There is a fix for the soft pedal with Stainless steel brake lines to replace the rubber ones . After market dealers have stainless steel brake line kits starting at $100 ..
