when i start my 2002 stratus, the speedometer goes nuts like the trottle is stuck but the tackometer reads 0 rpms. the engine sounds like it's a a normal idle. it's has an automatic trans, when i shift it into reverse when it has the above mention problem, i can feel it jump. i had other problems with this car like the battery light on. Mechanic said that the alternator is putting out too much voltage, around 15.5 v when it should be 14 volts. i also have the check engine light on. i was told by auto zone that was a gas cap. i changed the cap after they cleared the code and the check engine light came on in about a week. also i was told the check engine light is a very small vacuum leak. car runs good except for that battery light and speedometer problem i mentioned. is it possible that the computer is having problems with the extra voltage and the voltage is damaging things? any help would greatly be appreciated. i'm almost ready to trade this car in.
