I have an o2 Jetta TDi w/ 76000 miles and it is consuming motor oil. It
consumes about a quart or two. Do diesels usually do this, specially
the TDi?

Thanks.

a quart or two, that's not a very good explanation. Need to know a quart in
how many miles. And... is there any leaks?

A quart or two in 76,000 miles is pretty darned good. A quart or two in
7000 or 8000 miles is okay, too. A quart in 1000 miles is not so good.

While we're on the subject -- the guy in the office next to mine tells
me that his 2000 2.0 New Beetle uses NINE QUARTS of oil between oil
changes. See, now that's really not so good.

Do you mean it sucks a couple of quarts all at once or it is using oil.
If using oil; how much over how many miles?

All bets are off when any of the quick lube places become part of the
question.

Especially when the TDI requires specific oil that the quick lube place won't have - so much for the warramty.
