stupid question, but I have seen this scenario before: is the thermostat
installed correctly? that is, is it installed with the spring towards the
head? I did see one that was in backwards (spring towards radiator) and the
end result was the same.

Are you talking about air temp coming from the upper vent? If so, what
speed is the blower running at while giving this temperature? If you are
expecting output air temps anywhere near 195, that just ain't gonna happen.

Will do Roy. Was thinking this AM of snagging a laser
thermo in order to check the temps of each hose...core
and radiator.

Yes, temp in upper vent. Fan on high. Not expecting temps
that hot at all...just a little warmer than I'm getting.

You are talking about a 73 to 75 temp increase with the blower on high,
that's actually pretty good. I doubt that you are going to find anything
wrong with that system. If you were talking about a 20 degree or less
increase then I would say that you probably have a problem but not at this
level.

Realistically, with an ambient of ~40 degrees, you should be getting a
discharge temp from the floor vents of about 150 degrees with the truck at
normal operating temperature.

That's kind of what I was expecting. Just need to find out
why I'm not getting the warmer temp. 150 should roast me
out (as I remember it doing) with the fan on high.

I remember plowing up in Maryland with temps in the single
digits.....with the fan on low I still had to reduce the temp
setting it was so warm.

Max, I found the actuator and you are correct...it is accessible
from from the passenger side footwell. I tapped on it and it is
operating. However, I can't tell if it is going through its entire
range of motion. Is there a way to tell? I'm hoping that tapping
on it solved the problem (fingers crossed) but prepared to go
further if needed to get my heat back.
